They delve into the ‘how’ and ‘why’, which requires looking for proof of how something happened, from low-level investigations to evidence-based hypotheses of what is likely to have occurred. Shanna explains how understanding the connection between digital forensics and incident response helps help paint a picture of attribution that is factually accurate but also, identifies oversights or errors that can be removed or minimised. The discussion then turns to cognitive bias with implications of it being ignored or dismissed, having the potential to impact individuals, businesses and, the industry as a whole. Co-host Bek then chats with Principal Analyst Mark about next year’s AUSCERT conference and the goal to improve diversity and inclusion. A new element is a focus on first-time speakers with an initiative to encourage potential speakers to help identify subjects they can speak about and provide a mentorship initiative that will help guide an individual through the process that will have their voice and perspective heard and understood.
